“Good design begins with close observation — of line, light, texture and how a piece feels to wear. That is why every piece here begins with a conversation rather than a catalogue.”

Finding meaning
in the smallest details.

A commission starts with listening: the occasion, the references, the way a person actually lives with what they wear. From that conversation come drawings, stone options and, eventually, a single piece.

Bertha is drawn to line and proportion — to how a setting sits on the hand, how a chain falls, how much a piece should weigh. Travel, reading and the ordinary details of a day all feed into that eye.

She works within Arte Oro’s atelier at 38 Jalan Pemimpin — a workshop rather than a retail floor. Commissions are discussed, drawn and made under one roof, by craftsmen with over forty years at the bench.

The house

Made in Singapore,
by hand.

Every commission is developed in-house: the first conversation, the drawings, the selection of stones and the final setting. Nothing is outsourced, and nothing leaves the bench until it feels inevitable on the hand.

In practice

Three habits of the work.

01Observe first

Look at the hand, the wardrobe, the way jewellery is already worn — before proposing anything.

02Draw, then redraw

Sketches are cheap and honest. A design is only agreed once the proportion feels inevitable.

03Let the stone lead

Cut, colour and clarity decide more than the drawing does. The setting follows the stone.

Discuss a piece
with Bertha.

Bring an occasion, an inherited stone or simply an idea. The first conversation is about understanding the piece — the design comes after.
